Ali Matlock is an American filmmaker drawn to the spaces where the psychological becomes supernatural — where a secret kept too long takes on a life of its own, where ordinary people brush against forces that predate them. Working across suspense, horror, and psychological thriller, his films move slowly toward dread, trusting atmosphere over shock and character over spectacle.
Across ten short films, he has built a body of work defined by intimate unease — stories that begin in recognizable human tension and end somewhere else entirely. His short Shadows of the Dust was selected for the HP Lovecraft Film Festival's "Best Of" BluRay collection, one of the most meaningful recognitions in cosmic horror cinema.
A consistent hallmark across his filmography is genuinely diverse casting — not as concept but as lived reality. Across ten films, his casts feature an international array of characters sharing the same frame and the same dread. In a genre space where that remains the exception, it's one of the most recognizable signatures of an Apogee Media production.
Based in New York and Bangkok, Ali develops genre features through Apogee Media, pursuing stories that carry the weight of place — where location isn't backdrop but character.
Apogee Media works with a core group of trusted collaborators across cinematography, editing, sound, and production design — developed over nine films and ready to scale to feature production.
